As you know recently there was a raid on a polygomy compound. The state of Texas took custody of over 400 children. The question at hand is whether the authorities had to right to raid the compound, take adults and children into custody and then separate the children from their parents and grant state custody of the children. The Fundametalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints alleges the state/government are trampling on their religious beliefs, but others state there was mental & physical abuse, as well as rape being conducted. Your thoughts?

Not to mention they were breaking the law on several counts, namely statutory rape and I don't believe you're allowed to be married to more than one person in this country. Not that I'm against it...LOL

Bro. Joseph Walkes author of Black Square and Compass was a Mormon. In fact I considered becoming one a while back. I came to my senses and decided I'm an A.M.E. man for life.
I think we all agree that statutory rape is statutory rape. As a matter of fact, I believe any man that rapes a woman or child s/b turned into a "capon"! But with different religious beliefs being created, seemingly on a continuous basis, does the state have a right to carve out and intervene on that part they deem unacceptable to society? Are there parts in the Bible that can be perceived as unacceptable to society and thus the state/government can intervene. The reason I ask is that this country was supposedly founded on the separation of church and state. Irregardless of how we may personally feel, this particular religion (LDS) find it acceptable to have sexual intercourse with 13/14/15 year-olds. Is it noted anyway in any of the good books (Bible, Torah, Koran, etc...) that females should keep their virginity until a certain age?
First, I'd like to say, Welcome, Mr. Nelson. I'm Non-Denominational. I'm glad I have a better understanding of Islam's policy on "plural marriages". I've spoken w/some American-Muslim young boyz (excuse the Ebonics) and the subject always came up regarding "multiple wives". I've always thought that if you did take on multiple wives, you still have to support and care for them. These brothers' remarks always gave me the impression that they want to be "pimps". It's like they have no knowledge that they are still reponsible for caring/supporting the ladies.

I agree with your statement "injustice of raiding an entire community under the pretense". I believe that is how the Iraq war started. Again, welcome!
This reply is to the forum and not to Mr. Nelson who replied just before me:

I am a believer -- I believe that there is something, someone, a power more greater than myself (or mankind) in general. I have given up on churches and Pastors, but not "GOD". SOME OF the things I have seen and heard that was done in the name of GOD makes me sad and angry!......... I try (but I am no saint) to do good to those people I perceive to carry with them a sense of spirtuality and respect for all human beings, -- we all have a chance to be good or bad in this life -- and the choices we make is indicative to the characters we are. I wish we all (including myself) could transcend whatever petty biases, or misunderstandings or foolish beliefs we have.

Peace
Well stated Jeff. I was raised A.M.E. and I'll duck my head into church once or twice a year, I have a problem with organized religion as a whole. That includes Christianity AND Islam. Both religions have a long history of murder for those who do not believe.

It is a shame that in this day and age alot of isims continues to flourish. It is also sad that the grown folks have little regard to the little people. I know we all do the best we can with what we know and have. I just believe if we all would just come out of the box more things would be alittle bit better. Children are our most precious comodities. The state did the right thing. Now investigate!!!!!!!!! There are already too many insane, crazy, whatever adjective you choose to fit in living in our society. Then again you must believe in something............. HMM HMM
I'm not one to say anyone's religion is good or bad (not implying that you did) but there are two things I find horribly wrong with this situation. Again there's a question of statutory rape and two to the best of my recollection you can only marry one person at a time, aside from these two issues I say have at it. Mormons as a whole no longer practice polygamy and like some people in Islam and definitely mainstream Christianity you have radical branches doing whatever they darn well please.
religion is a hard subject to approach. I guess the biggest issue here are the children. We all must be cognisent of our little people. After all they are the future of the world. Any type of abuse imposed on their impressionable minds is a very grave mistake.......... So there it is so many different branches of religion and people doing whatever they dam well please. The bottom line is there is one GOD for all. HE WiLL judge.
Well said, kind of hard to argue. Irrespective of what religion you espouse to in the end, there is but one God. Allah, God of Abraham, etc.
Not true says who? You missed my point, in my world there is but one God. Kemetic and Yoruban? Can I get an English translation partner?

By the way most Christians believe in the Holy Trinity and do not subscribe to the single deity theory. You know the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Personally I do not believe in Jesus as being God, it's a historical fact he existed to what extent, I say he was a prophet. This is getting too deep again....LOL
It appears the State Supreme Court has ruled that the authorities were wrong in taking the children. I've read that some have been reunited with their mothers. I knew this would be a sticky situation from the beginning, but isn't it ironic that we have not seen or heard from the so-called individual who initially placed the call to the authorities, reporting the abuse? Things that make you go hmmmmm!
